On 12th September 2025, the Nyandarua National Polytechnic (NyNP), through the Agriculture and Environmental Studies Department, successfully held a one-day workshop on Job Readiness, Soft Skills, and Personal Management. The training targeted both trainees and Out-of-School Youth (OSY) as part of the institution’s mandate to empower young people with employability skills, personal growth competencies, and entrepreneurial mindsets.
The event brought together a total of 314 participants, comprising 141 females and 173 males. The high turnout demonstrated the commitment of the youth towards gaining skills that are essential for thriving in the modern workplace and self-employment.
The workshop focused on capacity building in job readiness and preparation for workplace integration. Participants were taken through sessions on soft skills such as communication, teamwork, and problem-solving, as well as personal management skills including goal setting, time management, and discipline. In addition, the training included sensitization on career development, entrepreneurship, and professional ethics.
Despite the success of the workshop, a few challenges were noted. These included limited time to exhaust all the planned topics given the large number of participants, the need for more breakout sessions to ensure deeper individual participation and interaction, and inadequate training materials for all participants, which occasionally led to sharing. Some trainees also required further follow-up on the practical application of soft skills in workplace settings.
In conclusion, the workshop was a success, equipping the youth with critical skills to enhance their employability and entrepreneurial capacity. Nyandarua National Polytechnic remains committed to supporting the empowerment of young people through skills, innovation, and sustainable practices. Special appreciation goes to the facilitators, organizers, and all participants for making the event impactful.
