Ian Otieno is a Kenyan by birth born in Luthehe village, Siaya County, Ugunja sub County. Ian was born in a family of four being the first-born. His father passed on when he was still young, and his mother has raised him together with his fellow siblings. Life was very hard and everyday was a struggle because getting even a breakfast was hard for the family. He went through his primary school around the village with the support from the grandmother and the mother, and later on proceeded to high school where he again received backing from the government bursary fund to boost for his fees.  He is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Food Science and Technology in Egerton University, supported by TAGDEV Program through RUFORUM under MASTERCARD FOUNDATION for four years. He is thankful for the support he is currently receiving from the RUFORUM@MASTERCARD FOUNDATION scholarship. He purposes to leave a positive impact on community’s lives especially on empowering the youths and acting as a role model to them. Through the knowledge that he has acquired throughout this program he believes it will lay a foundation towards achieving his goals in life.
