Good afternoon, and on behalf of Egerton University, I warmly welcome you to this TAGDev Side Event taking place alongside the Kenya National Research Festival 2025. We are deeply honoured to host this gathering under the festival’s theme “Sustainable Agriculture and Food Security: Empowering Communities through Research, Science, Technology and Innovation.”
1.0 Background information
Egerton University is one of the 12 Universities Implementing Transforming African Agricultural Universities to meaningfully contribute to Africa’s Growth and Development (TAGDev 2.0) program. This 10-year initiative (2023 – 2033) is a collaboration between the Regional Universities forum for capacity building in Agriculture (RUFORUM), Mastercard Foundation, the Global Confederation of Higher Education Associations for Agriculture and Life Sciences (GCHERA) and 12 African Universities. The program aims at strengthening institutions to serve the communities by empowering young women and men and their institutions to drive an inclusive, equitable, climate resilient and transformative agriculture and Agri-Food systems.
As part of transformation of Agri-food system, TAGDev program at Egerton University is implementing the Agrifood Systems and Entrepreneurship project aimed at validating and disseminating 15 Climate Smart Agricultural Technologies Innovation and Management Practices (TIMPs) that will impact 68,500 smallholder farmers, strengthening at least 6 farmer’s co- operatives, planting 950,000 trees, training 5,000 out of school youths, support establishment of 75 start-ups and engaging 25,000 young women and men to expand their work opportunities in the agrifood system.
The program therefore seeks to engage an agricultural extension intern to support in delivery of program activities as highlighted below:
Position: Agricultural Extension Intern

Duration: 6 months (with a possibility of renewal based on performance)
2.0 Position Summary
The intern will support the Agrifood Systems and Entrepreneurship Consortium (ASEC) project under TAGDev 2.0, with a focus on the management of the model farm. The role will involve coordinating demonstration and research activities on root and tuber crops, supporting farmer training events, and engaging with communities to enhance knowledge transfer and adoption of improved agricultural practices.
3.0 Duties and Responsibilities
Support the daily management and operation of the model farm, including its demonstration and research components.
Assist in setting up and managing trials and demonstrations for root and tuber crops.
Support the organization and facilitation of farmer training events, including planning logistics and providing technical backstopping
Document and report on model farm activities, farmer training sessions, and community feedback
Contribute to the preparation of technical reports, progress updates, and knowledge products
Work closely with project staff, researchers, extension officers and ASEC partners to ensure effective knowledge sharing with farming communities
Perform any other duties relevant to the project as may be assigned by the Program Coordinator.
4.0 Requirements and Competences
Completed Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture or Agricultural Education and Extension studies at Egerton University not earlier that 2024 with a minimum qualification of an Upper Second Class Honours.
Demonstrated experience in community engagement and farmer training or extension activities.
Strong understanding of the needs and challenges of farming communities.
Basic knowledge of research and demonstration methods in crop production, particularly for root and tuber crops.
Excellent organizational, facilitation, and communication skills.
Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
Proactive, innovative, and adaptable to dynamic program needs.

2.0 Position Summary
The Communication Intern will support the production of high-quality visual and multimedia content that aligns with the TAGDev corporate brand. The role will primarily focus on video production, photography, motion graphics, and graphic design to strengthen TAGDev’s visibility across digital platforms, events, and publications.
3.0 Duties and Responsibilities
Plan, shoot, and edit videos documenting TAGDev activities, student stories, and events.
Capture and edit photographs for reports, websites, and social media.
Design digital and print communication materials, including posters, reports, newsletters, and branded templates.
Create motion graphics and animations for digital platforms and program campaigns.
Support live coverage of events through photography, videography, and real-time content production.
Collaborate with program teams to document success stories, testimonials, and case studies in visual formats.
Ensure all communication products adhere to TAGDev corporate branding guidelines.
Perform any other communication-related duties assigned by the Program Coordinator.
4.0 Requirements and Competences
Completed Bachelor’s degree in Communication, Journalism, Film/Media Studies, Graphic Design, or a related field at Egerton University not earlier than 2023, with at least Upper Second Class Honours.
Demonstrated skills in audio-visual production (video shooting, editing, and sound design).
Proficiency in graphic design software (Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, Canva).
Strong knowledge of video editing tools (Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, DaVinci Resolve, or similar).
Skills in motion graphics and animation (Adobe After Effects or equivalent).
Experience in photography and photo editing (Lightroom, Photoshop).
Creativity in visual storytelling with attention to detail and branding.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic environment.
Proactive, innovative, and adaptable to emerging communication needs.

2.0 Position Summary
The Entrepreneurship and Business Development Intern will provide critical support to the Agrifood Systems and Entrepreneurship Consortium (ASEC) project under the TAGDev 2.0 program. The intern who will be based in Egerton Universality and will contribute to the design, implementation, monitoring and documenting of entrepreneurship, business development and job creation initiatives. The role will involve working closely with students, faculty, community, industry and youth-led enterprises to foster innovation, enhance entrepreneurial mindsets and translate ideas into viable and impactful business ventures.
3.0 Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist in operationalizing and managing business incubation in Egerton University.
- Support the Entrepreneurship and Business Development Officer to deliver business development services programs.
- Support the design and delivery of job creation initiatives.
- Assist in monitoring, documenting and reporting of entrepreneurship, business incubation and job creation activities.
- Perform any other duties relevant to the project as may be assigned by the Program Coordinator.
4.0 Requirements and Competences
- Completed Bachelor’s degree in Agribusiness, Agricultural Economics or a related field at Egerton University not earlier than 2023 with a minimum qualification of an Upper Second Class Honours.
- At least 6 months of proven experience as a founder or in a management role within a start-up.
- Demonstrated experience in implementing livelihood development or entrepreneurship support initiatives.
- Strong understanding of the needs, opportunities and challenges facing the MSME sector.
- Proficiency in data collection, data analysis, monitoring and reporting.
- Strong communication, facilitation, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Proactive, innovative and adaptable to a dynamic program environment.
