For 134 students from the department of Animal Science at Egerton University, the journey from learning to earning is taking shape through a new poultry enterprise designed to equip them with practical skills, create employment opportunities and strengthen their participation in Kenya’s agricultural value chains. TAGDev 2.0 officially inducted the team behind the Integrated Poultry Hatchery, Brooding and Chick Mash Production Enterprise, marking an important step towards putting the program’s mandate into practice.

The Field Attachment Coordinators’ Meeting brought together university staff across multiple academic departments to evaluate experiences, address persistent challenges, and unlock opportunities to strengthen transformative education and student industry placements. The session highlighted the strategic role of the TAGDev 2.0 Program in driving holistic transformation across student, staff, institutional, and community levels. 

The TAGDev 2.0 Program, through the Agrifood Systems and Entrepreneurship Consortium (ASEC) Potato Value Chain, participated in the Nakuru County Farmers Field Day held in Mutirithia, Molo on 5th August 2026. Organized in partnership with the National Potato Council of Kenya (NPCK), the event brought together over 500 farmers, youths, extension officers, researchers, students, and other agricultural stakeholders to promote sustainable agriculture, climate-smart farming practices, and innovative technologies that improve agricultural productivity and livelihoods.

Egerton University, through the Transforming African Agricultural Universities to Meaningfully Contribute to Africa's Growth and Development (TAGDev 2.0) Program, has signed a Cooperation Agreement with Egerton University SACCO Society Limited to operationalize the Savings-Enabled Enterprise Development (SEED) Fund. The initiative seeks to strengthen youth entrepreneurship by providing enterprise financing, mentorship, financial literacy, and access to formal financial services, creating a sustainable pathway for young entrepreneurs to establish and grow resilient businesses.
