The Transforming African Agricultural Universities to Meaningfully Contribute to Africa’s Growth and Development (TAGDev 2.0) Program at Egerton University held a successful onboarding meeting with Nyandarua National Polytechnic on 4th June 2025, under the Agrifood Systems & Entrepreneurship Consultum (ASEC) Project. The engagement was aimed to officially launch the project and lay the groundwork for collaborative implementation of youth-focused development activities.

TAGDev 2.0 Egerton University today held a  collaborative meeting with Nyandarua National Polytechnic to deliberate on areas of collaboration in the implementation of Agrifood Systems & Entrepreneurship Consortium ( ASEC) .

On 12th September 2025, the Nyandarua National Polytechnic (NyNP), through the Agriculture and Environmental Studies Department, successfully held a one-day workshop on Job Readiness, Soft Skills, and Personal Management. The training targeted both trainees and Out-of-School Youth (OSY) as part of the institution’s mandate to empower young people with employability skills, personal growth competencies, and entrepreneurial mindsets.

On 5th September 2025, Nyandarua National Polytechnic hosted a specialized workshop aimed at equipping 18 young men and women with vital skills in agricultural extension services. Conducted under the Agriculture Sector Employment Creation (ASEC) Project, the training focused on preparing youth to serve as a bridge between modern agricultural knowledge and smallholder farmers within the community.

The workshop strengthened participants’ understanding of key areas including crop and livestock management, soil health, climate-smart agriculture, record keeping, and farmer group mobilization. In addition, the youth were sensitized on communication and leadership skills to enable them to effectively engage with farmers and local stakeholders.

From 8th to 11th September 2025, the Agri-Food Systems and Consortium (ASEC) Project, in collaboration with agricultural stakeholders, conducted a four-day farmer training workshop in Ol Joro Orok Constituency, Nyandarua County. The training brought together more than 130 smallholder farmers from across the constituency with the aim of enhancing their knowledge and adoption of sustainable and profitable farming practices.

From 23rd to 26th September 2025, Nyandarua National Polytechnic (NyNP) hosted a four-day training and Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) assessment targeting 14 Out-of-School Youth (OSY) under the ASEC Project’s Skills Development and Certification component. The exercise aimed to equip the youth with practical skills and formal recognition in Agricultural Extension and Farm Machinery Operation, thereby enhancing their employability and capacity for agripreneurship.

On 1st October 2025, the Kagacha Farmers Cooperative, in collaboration with the NAVCDP under the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, and Fisheries (MoALF) – Nyandarua County, conducted a training session on Agri-Produce Value Addition at Kanguo Catholic Church Hall. The activity, implemented under the ASEC Project’s Value Chain Support component, brought together 38 farmers (13 males and 25 females) for a practical learning session aimed at improving post-harvest management and income generation.

On 15th October 2025, the ASEC Project, under its Technical Skills Transfer component, conducted a training session on Soil Testing and Analysis for students from AHITI Nyahururu College at Nyandarua National Polytechnic (NyNP). The session brought together 44 students (30 males and 14 females) for an intensive learning experience designed to strengthen their technical capacity in soil science and sustainable agricultural practices.

On 1st October 2025, farmers from Oljoro Orok convened at the Ol Joro Orok Catholic Church for a training on Agri-Produce Value Addition, organized under the ASEC Project’s Market Access and Value Addition component. The session was conducted in partnership with the National Agricultural Value Chain Development Project (NAVCDP) under the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, and Fisheries (MoALF) – Nyandarua County.

On 10th October 2025, the ASEC Project conducted a Tree Planting Sensitization activity at Mwiteithia Primary School in North Kinangop under the Environmental Sustainability component. The event brought together pupils, teachers, and members of the local community in a joint effort to promote environmental protection and climate-smart agricultural practices.

A total of 500 fruit trees, including mango, avocado, and passion varieties, were planted within the school compound. The exercise aimed to encourage agroforestry, enhance soil fertility and water conservation, and provide long-term nutritional benefits for the school community.

On 15th October 2025, representatives from the ASEC Project conducted a collaboration visit to GatumBiro Farm in Oljoro Orok, hosted by CAPYEI and Oljoro Foods Ltd. The visit, implemented under the Strategic Partnerships component of ASEC, sought to explore avenues for partnership and synergy among key stakeholders involved in youth skills development, agro-processing, and market access.
